- ➤ Ministry with Community and Housing Resources Inc. have partnered to expand overnight winter shelter services with a $700,000 funding infusion from local authorities through March 31—MwC will operate the shelter at 500 N. Edwards St. to serve up to 91 people in freezing conditions while HRI manages the intake process. WWMT
- ➤ The Salvation Army of Kalamazoo is calling for volunteers as it rings holiday bells across West Michigan to raise funds for youth programs and to help cover utility and rent costs for those in need + the group reports fewer bell ringers since COVID and also accepts food donations from those unable to donate time or money. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices in Michigan fell 15¢ per gallon compared to last week, now averaging $2.96, according to Triple-A Michigan. Prices vary with Traverse City at $2.63 and southwest counties starting at $2.88 — a drop from last year — while Ann Arbor has the highest at $3.02. WKZO
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kalamazoo County commissioners will meet Tuesday to get an update on plans to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary next year. The update covers events such as a patriotic concert with a drone show, a 4th of July parade in Schoolcraft, and a special exhibit at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts — plans also include a new county logo. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The West Michigan Cancer Center reopened after flooding forced a temporary closure on December 1 — the facility now welcomes patients and resumes full services. WWMT
