- ➤ A benefit concert is set for November 22 at 5:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church on South Park Street to support Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry. Sponsored by K’zoo Folklife Organization and Great Lakes Music Association, the concert will feature several bands—Joshua Tree Band, Mojo Band, Hoot Owls, His Boy Elroy and Schlitz Creek Bluegrass Band—and asks for a donation of non-perishable food or cash. - ➤ Twelve Baskets Food Pantry in Portage saw nearly a 50% rise in food help requests after SNAP benefits ended due to the government shutdown. The food pantry urges drivers to follow rules and avoid blocking Portage Road—if you see a LOT FULL sign, wait 30 minutes and return for pickup on Nov. 16. WWMT
- ➤ First responder vehicles and community members held a memorial processional in Portage on Nov 12—driving from Kalamazoo First Assembly of God to Fieldstone Grille—in honor of Oshtemo Township firefighter Charlie Sullivan, who died in a motorcycle crash on Nov 5. MLive

- ➤ Meijer is cutting prices for Thanksgiving by offering store-brand frozen turkey at 49 cents per pound and reducing prices on more than 90 holiday staples—sales run for turkey until Thanksgiving and on other items through December 31. MLive
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Portage gardeners are warned that invasive jumping worms are damaging local soil and plants across Michigan. Ulrich Chung from Michigan State University Extension said gardeners should avoid moving soil and clean tools to help stop the spread—protecting forests and gardens from harm. MLive
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Portage will hold two informational sessions at City Hall on November 20 at 5:30 p.m. and November 21 at noon for buyers interested in 42 new workforce housing homes in Stanwood Crossings—attendees can also tour two completed homes off Stanley east of Portage Road. Buyers must earn between 80 and 120% of the county median income, and federal ARPA funds plus a local housing grant have reduced the purchase price by 25%. WKZO
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Western Michigan University honored Marshawn Kneeland, a former Kalamazoo college football player drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, at Waldo Stadium last night — his number 99 was displayed on the field and decals were placed on helmets as a tribute after he took his own life in Texas last week. - ➤ Before their Tuesday game against Ohio at Waldo Stadium, Western Michigan staged an emotional tribute to honor former Bronco Marshawn Kneeland by painting his No. 99 on the field and adding helmet decals with his initials (the tribute followed his death last Thursday). The team held a moment of silence and carried his jersey and helmets during the coin toss before winning the game 17-13. MLive
- ➤ Western Michigan beat Ohio on Tuesday night as the Broncos rallied in the second half and delivered a strong defense to move into MAC's top spot and become bowl eligible—solidifying their season. MLive
