- ➤ The 2026 Birds Doing Stuff calendar is out now — it features Michigan images by photographer Steve Jessmore, including a common merganser hen landing on the Rapid River and 12 educational photos inside. It is co-branded with Michigan Audubon and donates funds from each sale to help protect bird habitats. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Consumers Energy has announced a new Public Safety Power Shutoff policy that can cut power when strong winds, fires, or floods threaten safety. The company said it will use a multi-level plan to decide if and when to shut off power—informing customers ahead of time and working to restore service quickly. WWMT
- ➤ Michigan lawmakers passed a six-bill package on Oct. 28th that awards business tax credits for small modular reactors, defines advanced nuclear reactors in state law, and creates research + workforce training programs. Holtec International plans to build two small modular reactors at the Palisades plant by 2030. MLive
