- ➤ Dan and Holly Carmichael bought the historic Kalamazoo State Theatre (98 years old) on Sept. 29 and said they will restore it with new safety, accessibility, and backstage improvements. The couple, who first met at the venue, announced their plans on Sept. 30 and will reopen the theater by 2027. MLive

- ➤ Great Lakes Energy will raise electric rates for 130,000 members across 26 counties in November as it faces $155 million in costs to fix damage from a big ice storm that hurt over 4,300 miles of power lines—residents' bills are set to increase by about $17.18 a month. MLive

- ➤ Millions of birds are migrating south over Michigan as more than six million flew over last night, according to BirdCast. Insect-eating birds and hawks have begun their journey from the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary—experts say another busy night is expected. WWMT

- ➤ Michigan hunters are set for a robust deer harvest in 2025, although the DNR warns that heavy snowfall in the Upper Peninsula, lingering ice storm impacts on access and an ongoing epizootic hemorrhagic disease outbreak in the southern Lower Peninsula (EHD) could affect the season. Archery season begins today and runs until Nov. 14. MLive
- ➤ On Monday night, the Comstock Township Board approved a committee to address rising homelessness amid record nationwide numbers that neared 800,000. Local officers noted an increase in homeless encampments and said the group will update ordinances and connect people to needed resources. WWMT
