  • Chuck E. Cheese closed its Portage location at 6175 S. Westnedge Ave after decades of serving families since it opened in 1983 and canceled memberships effective Sept. 8. Kroger purchased the strip mall on June 10 for $10 million—its future plans for the space remain unannounced.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas Township officials will let voters decide on funding emergency services on the ballot in August 2026 after canceling plans for a Special Assessment District due to community concerns. Township Supervisor Joanne McFarland O’Rourke said the board is testing temporary funding measures while preparing voter details—long-term funding will depend on the vote outcome.  WWMT

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Michigan’s bear hunting season will take place later this fall for licensed hunters after a drawing, with Upper Peninsula hunts from Sept. 10 to Oct. 26 and northern Lower Peninsula hunts from Sept. 13 to 23 or Oct. 3 to 9—hunters must register bear parts within 72 hours and cook meat to 160 degrees to prevent trichinosis.  MLive
