ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Michigan's fall colors are set to peak from Oct. 6 to Nov. 8 on scenic county roads—routes compiled by road commissions list drives from the Upper Peninsula through Lower Michigan. The list covers 63 counties with 90,500 miles of road and 5,900 bridges, offering varied scenic routes for local travelers.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Amtrak will shut down track lines for the Wolverine and Blue Water routes between September 15 and September 19 for structure removals and will offer substitute transportation for select trains. Senator McCann criticized the move—saying poor planning and a lack of advance notice left riders, employees and local businesses unprepared for the disruption.  WKZO

  • Comstock High School’s football team received a $15,000 grant for new helmets from the Detroit Lions under their Touchdown in Your Town program — coach Art Campione said the gift boosted the players’ morale and unified the team after their visit to Ford Field on Aug. 23.  WWMT
