- ➤ On Monday, Aug. 25, 2025, many West Michigan schools opened as students returned from summer break and some districts set up new cell phone bans to help keep students focused — a gallery by Kelly Jones captured moments like Aiden and Madison waiting for the bus while local volunteers worked to protect a state park's ecosystem from an invasive species. - ➤ On Aug. 26, 2025, thousands of WMU students gathered on campus for the 43rd Bronco Bash to mark the start of the academic year+ over 430 vendors set up more than 500 tables to offer campus and community resources. WWMT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Local Officers Compensation Commission recommended a 9.4% raise for council members and a 13.6% increase for the mayor over the next two years. The raise will automatically take effect in 30 days under the Home Rule Act—unless 2/3 of the council votes to reject it—if it is not removed from the Consent Agenda. WKZO
