ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Parts of Portage Road between South Shore Drive and Emily Avenue were closed Tuesday morning after a car hit a power pole and no one was injured. Kalamazoo County Consolidated Dispatch Authority advised drivers to take an alternate route—Consumers Energy crews replaced the power line while about 20 customers lost power. WWMT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Michael Dyer, deputy chief at Comstock Fire and Rescue, will face trial on Sept 2 after he drove drunk in June and hit a child, injuring her and forcing surgery + he is now on administrative leave. WWMT
- ➤ Myquan Rogers was sentenced yesterday to 26—70 years in prison for using a stolen AR—15 to shoot and kill a WMU student and an unborn baby near I—94. WKZO
- ➤ Former WMU exchange student Al Allan De Los Santos Mueses will stand trial in Kalamazoo for allegedly sexually assaulting a 20-year-old student in 2010 and faces four charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct—Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said the case follows an immediate report and forensic exam. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Last week, Michigan lawmakers introduced several bills aimed at reducing microplastics in the Great Lakes—measures will phase out plastic microbeads by 2026, require drinking water tests from 2027 to 2030, and set up a long-term research plan. Environmental and public health advocates say the proposals address growing risks from microplastics found in fish and water supplies. WWMT

- ➤ Yung Gravy, a two-time platinum rapper, will perform a free tailgate concert at WMU on September 6 with his set starting at 1:30 p.m. ahead of the Broncos' home opener against North Texas at 3:30 p.m. The concert takes place at Lot 13 outside the Student Recreation Center (WMU students may also enter a raffle for a meet and greet on Aug. 26).
