- ➤ Several West Michigan schools and nonprofits are sharing a $90,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to support literacy programs. Portage’s Amberly Elementary will receive $3,000 for books and technology—other local groups will use their funds to improve educational resources. WWMT

- ➤ Michigan State Police held active shooter training for church leaders in Grand Rapids yesterday—Colonel James Grady led the session as retired trooper David VanLopik stressed that most armed intruder incidents last only 30 to 60 seconds. WKZO
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ RxKids, a program that gives cash to new and expecting parents in Kalamazoo, may soon be expanded statewide if Senate Bill 309 passes, allowing communities with matching funds to offer $1,500 during pregnancy and $500 each month after birth. Dr. Mona Hanna said the program—modeled on child allowance systems abroad—could help thousands of families cover basic costs. WWMT
