- ➤ Economic experts say that changing tariffs on Chinese toys could push up prices and force local shoppers to adjust their holiday plans. Adam Weiner from Bricks & Minifigs and Dr. Marcel Zondag of Western Michigan University say that business owners face rising costs—shoppers may need to wait for prices to drop. WWMT
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Golden oyster mushrooms spread into Michigan’s forests after becoming a popular home-grown food in the early 2000s. A recent study warns the invasive fungus outcompetes native fungi and may harm processes like wood decay and carbon cycling. WWMT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A section of US-131 will be closed from H Avenue to US-131 BR for three consecutive weekends—Aug. 8-11, 15-18, and 22-25—as crews set beams for the new ramp bridge. State officials said detours will run on US-131 BR and Douglas Avenue and that funding secured by local representatives is expected to support 181 jobs. WWMT
