- ➤ A report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition says the average rent for a two-bedroom apartment in Kalamazoo County is $1,181 per month and workers there earn only $18.57 per hour, which is below the $22.71 needed to keep rent costs under 30% of income — showing that wages are not keeping up with housing costs. The study also noted that a one-bedroom rental requires a wage of $15.92 per hour, adding more strain to local budgets. WKZO
