- ➤ Today, the City of Portage warned residents of a phone spoofing scam in which scammers use a City phone number and claim to be from Walmart to trick them into sharing personal and financial details, and officials urged residents to only provide sensitive information when calling back on a verified City number. - ➤ Three candidates will run for mayor in Kalamazoo while seven candidates are seeking three city commission seats and in Parchment, seven candidates will contest four commission seats—in Portage, five candidates are competing for three council seats as Mayor Patricia Randall faces no challenge. - ➤ Portage officials awarded an exclusive contract for trash, yard waste and recycling removal to Waste Management at a meeting on Tuesday, July 22 — over 70 local residents chanted 'our trash, our choice' in protest while noting that Best Way Disposal, which has served the area for more than 30 years, was excluded from the award.
