Good morning, Portage. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 23rd of July.

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sinclair has partnered with the American Cancer Society to launch Sinclair Cares: Help Drive Out Cancer and offer volunteer rides for patients in Kalamazoo County who need transportation to cancer treatments. In 2024 the Road to Recovery program provided over 70,000 free rides—yet 31% of ride requests remain unfulfilled, so local volunteers are encouraged to sign up using the new app.  WWMT
  • Healthcare advocates testified Tuesday at a House Subcommittee hearing that Michigan’s psychiatric beds are scarce, forcing patients to wait days in crowded emergency rooms and travel long distances for care — leaving many without timely treatment — as lawmakers work on a report with recommendations to expand capacity.  WWMT
