  • Walmart recalled 850,000 Ozark Trail 64 oz insulated water bottles on July 11th after the lid forcefully ejected and struck consumers, with two people suffering permanent vision loss. Owners can return the bottles for a full refund at Walmart — addressing the serious safety risk linked to carbonated and perishable beverages stored over time.  MLive

CRIME NEWS

  • On July 10 at 1 a.m., a Ford F-350 in Comstock Township was vandalized with racial slurs and hateful symbols carved into its side along with slashed tires and a chemical spray on its hood—authorities are investigating the incident as a hate crime.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Data from the US Corps of Engineers shows Lake Michigan’s water level is now over 3 ft lower than in summer 2020 & local beachgoers benefit from more exposed shoreline and warmer swimming temperatures compared to nearly a foot lower level last July.  WWMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Portage announced that starting Monday Woodbine Avenue east of Portage Road will be closed for the installation of water and sanitary sewer services at the Stanwood Crossings Development—detours use Woodlawn Drive to Stanley Avenue and provide Austin Lake boat access. Officials expect the work to finish by Friday, July 18, weather permitting.  WKZO
