ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A house fire closed parts of Lovers Lane on Tuesday night when Portage Public Safety firefighters entered the home after neighbors reported heavy smoke—no one was injured. Investigators from the Portage Fire Marshal’s Office are now examining the incident. WWMT
- ➤ A crash on Kilgore Road between Skyler Drive and Lakeside Drive on June 25th at 4 p.m. left one person seriously injured and the driver was taken to Bronson Hospital—Portage police are investigating and advise drivers to avoid the area. WWMT

- ➤ The free Portage Vintage Base Ball Festival, featuring 23 clubs from six states and 52 games at four fields — each using vintage rules from 1860, 1864, and 1867 — will be held at Ramona Park on Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29, offering a unique look at the early game for families and fans. - ➤ Pro-Services of Portage will receive $12 million from the Michigan Strategic Trust Fund to support its expansion plans in Kalamazoo County and create 250 new jobs, which pay just over $28 an hour (as noted by Portage City Manager Patrick McGinnis). - ➤ The WMU Board will meet today at 12:00 p.m. in Heritage Hall ballroom to consider the 2025-26 tuition, fees, room and board rates, and overall operating budget—following last year’s tuition and housing rate increases. Additional items on the agenda include awarding emeritus status to Dr. Edward Montgomery, reviewing faculty tenure and promotions, authorizing a real property lease for the medical school, and setting future board meeting dates.
