- ➤ God's Kitchen of Michigan exceeded its $25,000 fundraising goal by earning a $15,000 grant from Mike and Sharon Seelye Family Foundation and community donations. It will hold a free taco dinner on Thursday, June 26 from 5 to 6 p.m. at Flesher Field in Oshtemo Township. WKZO
- ➤ City officials in Portage say residents should not swim in Austin Lake on June 23 and 24 because chemicals will treat unwanted water plants—officials also ask that residents avoid using lake water for watering until June 28 as Savin Lake Services Inc. continues its work through July 3. WWMT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ An anonymous donation of $30 million is supporting Kalamazoo College in constructing new residence halls that will increase housing capacity by about 25% and include mainly single-occupancy rooms — the $55 million project is under construction and will open in fall. WKZO

- ➤ Fifteen Kalamazoo-area softball players were named to the 2025 all-state team by the MHSSCA — with Paw Paw's Cami VanderMeeden noted for her play in the state final on June 14 — marking a strong season in Southwest Michigan. MLive
- ➤ Reece Hampton, a 2018 Tigers draft pick turned Party Animals outfielder, returned to LMCU Ballpark on June 12 for a Banana Ball game that mixed fast play with fun rules. He played in a lively match against the Firefighters & recalled his early days with the Whitecaps as he embraced the unique spirit of the game. MLive
