CRIME NEWS

  • At 2:50 a.m. on June 18, deputies responded to the Fifth Third Bank on Stadium Drive in Oshtemo Township after a forced entry and have not located the suspect; officials described him as a thin white male wearing all black with white socks (KCSO report).  WWMT
  • Shots were fired at a pool party in Richland Township on Tuesday, June 17 at roughly 7:58 p.m. on East EF Avenue — the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office responded and said no injuries were reported as the investigation continues.  WWMT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Delores Myers—who has served nearly 30 years on the Kalamazoo RESA board—will retire on June 30 after leading key projects like the WoodsEdge Learning Center and the Career Connect Campus; she began her board service in 1996 and served as president from 2002 to 2013.  WKZO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kalamazoo County board accepted the recommendation to build a new youth sports complex at the Westgate site near U.S. 131—raising debates about which local leaders will join the facility authority. The board also held a closed session on purchasing the property—further decisions on the advisory board are expected in upcoming agendas.  WKZO

SPORTS NEWS

  • Portage native Carson Hocevar was fined $50,000 by his NASCAR team after he called Mexico City a 's---hole' on a Twitch livestream before a Cup Series race, finishing 34th and spinning out Ricky Stenhouse Jr. He apologized for his remarks — the fine will be split equally among three organizations serving Mexican communities — and he must complete cultural-sensitivity training.  MLive
