Good morning, Portage.

The City of Portage will hold its fourth Portage Road 360 Community Open House on June 18 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Portage Zhang Senior Center — residents will view updated renderings, review preliminary roadway designs, and help set priorities for corridor improvements along Portage Road — as part of an ongoing effort to gather public input.

Today, an estimated 25,000 people are expected at the Rock the Country music festival at Barry Expo Center in Hastings where Kid Rock, Nickelback, and other bands will perform.

Local officials have planned for traffic delays—residents are advised to avoid the M-37 corridor between Hastings and Middleville—and neighborhoods may face temporary road closures during peak hours.

State Senator Sean McCann reintroduced legislation to let voters decide on expanding Michigan’s Bottle Deposit Law in 2026 — his proposal would let dealers accept all eligible beverage containers anywhere, expand the deposit to include water bottles, and require public data on the program.
