- ➤ The Community Health Center held its 27th annual Roof Sit fundraiser and raised $74,413 for abused and neglected children in the Kalamazoo area—short of its $90,000 goal. Donations continue to be accepted and will be matched by a Victims of Crime Act grant to fund free treatment at the CHC's Children's Advocacy Center. WWMT

- ➤ Robert Nizzardini was found guilty of second-degree murder, felony firearm, and domestic violence in the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend Tami Sue Nickles on May 5—evidence showed she was shot from 4 to 5 feet away—and his sentencing is set for 9 a.m. on June 16. MLive

- ➤ A state report showed that 29% of primary roads in Kalamazoo County were in poor condition—645 miles were surveyed—with 35% rated fair and 36% good. State leaders are debating a bill package that would allocate $2.2 billion from Corporate Income Tax revenue and $945 million from gas taxes for road repairs. WKZO
- ➤ Nearly two weeks after the May 15 tornadoes, local crews in West Michigan including those in Portage are working long shifts to clear debris and offer free drop-off options — officials advise residents needing help to call public services. WWMT
- ➤ Drivers in Kalamazoo County noticed the southbound US-131 ramp to westbound M-43 was closed Tuesday while MDOT crews worked to add a left-turn lane for eastbound traffic—part of a $7.8 million project that began March 31 and is set to reopen by June 10. WWMT
- ➤ Michigan's Department of Health and Human Services announced on May 27 that the Summer Electronic Benefit Program resumes, giving eligible low-income families $120 per child to use over June, July and August. Families with existing EBT cards will receive the funds automatically while those without one will get a new pre-loaded card. WWMT
- ➤ The Michigan Department of Transportation closed the U.S. 131 Exit 38B ramp onto West Main Street on May 27 and will reopen it on June 10 after adding a traffic light for two-way turns. Drivers must use a detour via Exit 36 at Stadium Drive+the $10 million project will finish by the end of August and will widen West Main Street to improve traffic flow. MLive
