COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo Board of Directors named Ericia Moore as the new CEO and President, effective July — marking the first permanent female leader in its 160-year history. Moore will replace interim CEOs and drive the YMCA's 1 in 1 by 31 plan forward. WWMT
- ➤ On Tuesday, May 26, Portage held a ribbon cutting at 125 East Centre Avenue to launch the new Portage Zhang Farmers Market (with funding from local donors, the state, and city). The first market day is set for Sunday, May 31 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. WWMT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kalamazoo Public Schools plans a $54 million Spanish immersion school at 1428 Baker Drive in Kalamazoo Township and will start construction in July after a late-June bid review; students stay at the current El Sol building until the new school opens in fall 2028. MLive
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Rx Kids expands its prenatal and infant cash prescription program to Galesburg, Oshtemo and Wakeshma Townships beginning June 1, allowing eligible families to receive $1,500 during pregnancy and $500 monthly for the first year. WKZO

- ➤ Kalamazoo Gazette is hosting its Athlete of the Week poll for 37 spring sports stars from May 18–23. Votes are accepted until 11 a.m. Friday, May 29 & fans can email nominations for future contenders. MLive
