  • The Community Healing Center’s 27th annual Roof Sit began on Thursday at a dinner on the corner of South Westnedge and Milham Avenue and will continue until noon today—donations help fund free and low-cost services for abused children, with 13 cases reported daily in Kalamazoo County—community members are urged to watch for signs of abuse.  WWMT

  • On May 22, an employee at Big Brothers Big Sisters Southwest Michigan notified CEO Amy Kuchta that an HVAC unit was stolen from a secured area after someone climbed a concrete wall, and police have filed a report while the agency plans to replace the unit for $5,000 with a remodel expected by the end of June.  WWMT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eleven West Michigan college students received a total of $12,500 in scholarships to boost their advanced manufacturing careers; the awards were presented on May 21 by Discover Manufacturing. James White of Grand Rapids Community College received a $1,000 renewal scholarship to help pay for his course materials—easing his financial burden—while the region builds its future workforce.  MLive
