ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Two drivers were hospitalized after a rollover crash on the 500 block of West Milham Avenue on May 21—Portage police said a truck turning west was hit by an eastbound vehicle and speed was a factor. MLive
- ➤ On May 21st two people sustained minor injuries in a head-on crash on King Highway near River Street in Comstock—fire and rescue crews quickly treated the injured and temporarily closed the road near Henning Street. WWMT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State lawmakers are considering banning ingredients such as red dye 40, titanium dioxide, and other synthetic dyes from school lunches to help improve children’s health—this proposal is under review in committee. Some legislators support the bill to reduce risks for attention disorders while others worry that new regulations might increase meal costs for schools. WWMT
- ➤ On May 21, the Kalamazoo Township board approved spending $125,000 for cleanup work after a severe storm struck last Thursday, May 15. The funds will be used to remove downed power lines, fallen trees and blocked roadways. WKZO

- ➤ Ticks can carry Lyme disease, parasites, bacteria, and viruses, so the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services warned residents on May 21 to take care when outdoors before Memorial Day. People should use EPA-approved repellents (with DEET) on skin and clothing and check themselves and their pets for ticks after spending time outside. MLive
