- ➤ On Monday, May 25, the Portage Memorial Day Parade starts at 10 a.m. from The Crossroads mall (6650 S. Westnedge Ave) and proceeds for 1.5 miles to Veterans Memorial Park (399 Library Lane), featuring a brief ceremony with a three-shot volley by the VFW Honor Guard. MLive

- ➤ NOAA says a strong El Niño is developing and early summer should be warm while late summer is expected to be cooler with days in the 70s rather than the usual 80s in Michigan (forecasts are long-range but supported by historical trends). MLive
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Kalamazoo Wings have released the final season schedule at Wings Event Center before moving to a new downtown arena in 2027 — the team's 52nd season starts with a home opener against Toledo Walleye on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. and ends on April 11 at 3 p.m. WKZO
- ➤ Portage Central Mustangs defended their regional title by edging Holt last weekend — securing their eighth state finals appearance in nine years. With junior Aarna Betala’s win at No. 3 singles bolstering a roster, they aim to build on last year’s performance as Division 1 state finals begin later this month. MLive
- ➤ Jaylind Motton, who broke a 50-year high jump record, led Loy Norrix's signing day on Wednesday, May 20 at the high school in Kalamazoo for 11 college-bound athletes (including players in basketball, football, and swimming) after earning a Division I scholarship. MLive
