  • Staff from Portage North and Portage Central High Schools played a slow pitch softball game on May 18 at PNHS Baseball Field to raise money for the TSC Alliance and support coach Adam Cardona and his son Camden, who has Tuberous sclerosis complex — a rare genetic disorder. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Roughly 50,000 utility customers in Michigan lost power after severe storms brought nine tornadoes on May 18, with Consumers Energy reporting 49,000 outages at 9:20 a.m.; crews are working to restore service and aid communities. Emergency groups are coordinating support in areas like Kalamazoo and Detroit — providing water and a free meal in designated locations.  MLive

  • After severe weather Thursday night, Kalamazoo County declared a state of emergency on Saturday and more than 244,000 customers lost power; nearly 700 electric crews are working to restore service as officials warn residents to discard refrigerated food left without power for too long (freezer guidelines are in effect).  WWMT
  • Kalamazoo County declared a local state of emergency after an EF-0 tornado touched down in Galesburg on May 15 and caused tree damage along a 10-mile path—Consumers Energy is working to restore power for nearly 15,000 customers affected by widespread damage from severe thunderstorms.  MLive
