  • The family of local icon Gene Rhodes, known as Gene the Pumpkin Man, is hosting an estate sale today through May 17 to honor his legacy by selling items from his farm including his iconic orange Cadillac (bids will be collected in a pumpkin-shaped box and donations for the Bronson Foundation will be matched up to $10,000).  WWMT

CRIME NEWS

  • On May 12, a 2006 GMC pickup truck crossed the median and crashed into the Wendy’s drive-thru at 4301 W. Centre Ave in Portage before fleeing into a nearby swamp—police later arrested the driver, who refused medical treatment and was found to show evidence of impairment pending test results.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ray & Mascari Inc. has issued a recall of its four count Vine Ripe Tomatoes after potential salmonella contamination was identified, and consumers who bought the product from Gordon Food Service Stores in Michigan and other states should discard it — no illnesses have been reported.  WWMT

  • In fall the new indoor pickleball facility will open at Romence Plaza with 10 courts, a player’s lounge, tournaments, leagues and lessons to serve players of all ages—an initiative led by a local pickleball enthusiast. The 46,236 square foot club will also host social events and a retail store as it meets the growing demand for the sport.  WWMT
