Portage marks the first anniversary of an EF-2 tornado that struck on May 7th and damaged local businesses, with Deputy City Manager Adam Herringa saying the city distributed $1 million in state aid—payouts capped at $30,000 from 53 applications—and the United Way allotting $250,000 while some sites such as the FedEx distribution center near the airport remain under reconstruction.

An Indiana company recalled four count clamshell packages of "Vine Ripe" tomatoes sold by Gordon Food Service in Michigan due to a salmonella risk—FDA issued the alert on Saturday.
Customers who purchased the affected tomatoes are advised to throw them out.

Thousands of runners took part in the 46th Zeigler Kalamazoo Marathon on Sunday, with nearly 400 competing in the full race that started at 7 a.m. and additional events at 8:05 a.m.—Kalamazoo’s Seth Essling won the full marathon as Aaron Zeigler said the race was meant to build a healthy community.
