- ➤ WMU's Native American Student Organization hosted Earth Day events on April 22 that included a water ceremony at Goldsworth Valley Pond, an art exhibit, panel discussion, drum performance and Indigenous food. The events celebrated Mother Earth and stressed the need to protect water resources for the community. WWMT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Local middle and high school students attended a 'Careers in a Changing Climate' event at WMU's Sangren Hall on Earth Day, learning how climate change shapes career paths. Over 150 students heard experts such as Dr. Asia Dowtin and meteorologist Will Haenni — discussing the impact of climate on professions. WWMT
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Consumers Energy will install 100 solar-powered weather stations (with battery backup) across West Michigan to provide real-time storm data and improve outage responses. The company expects the stations to save about one million dollars a year in planning and restoration costs when fully operational by the end of 2027. WWMT
