- ➤ Logan’s Roadhouse at 6701 S. Westnedge Ave. closed permanently on March 31 (its doors clearly marked the closure), ending years of service along a busy stretch in Portage. MLive
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Richland police arrested a 31-year-old Kalamazoo man on April 1st—he is accused of delivering fentanyl that led to the overdose death of 32-year-old Ethan Brockway on November 23rd. WWMT
- ➤ Jason Sessoms (19) was arrested Saturday in West Michigan on charges of home invasion and other offenses, with his bond set at $2 million (cash/surety), and he is also facing separate charges in Missouri for the alleged murder of his parents. WWMT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Residents at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine reached a new contract on March 30 that provides 9% to 11% salary increases over three years—averting a planned strike and marking the first collective bargaining agreement between the union and a private medical school in Michigan. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Portage will begin a five-month reconstruction of South Westnedge Avenue this summer—digging up and replacing sewer, water main and other utilities between Osterhout Avenue and South Shore Drive at a cost of $1.9M. MLive
