ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A G1 geomagnetic storm is forecast to produce Northern Lights before daybreak Sunday as a recurring coronal hole and a coronal mass ejection combine to stir magnetic energy over West Michigan (greens may mix with reds).  WWMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oshtemo Township planners rejected the proposal to add a 99,000 sqft Kroger to West Main Village on Feb. 12 — citing zoning issues and reduced housing as reasons. The Ferlito Group will meet to decide next steps for the mixed-use development near Advia Credit Union at 6400 W. Main St.  MLive
  • WMU Board of Trustees agreed in principle to transfer stewardship of the 278-acre Asylum Lake Preserve to Kalamazoo County, with the county parks department set to manage the property. The deal awaits state Legislature approval (and is not yet finalized) amid public discussion concerns.  WKZO
