- ➤ Officials in Kalamazoo County have ramped up efforts to help homeless residents withstand cold weather, providing over 200 emergency shelter beds (new spaces by Hope Through Navigation) as temperatures drop this weekend. - ➤ Kalamazoo County is planning several new projects that will reshape the area. A $515 million event center will open fall 2027 and River’s Edge Apartments will open fall 2026, a homeless shelter near Portage and a country club are coming soon, while Raising Cane’s opens in Portage on Feb. 17. - ➤ Plumbers warn Portage residents that as temperatures drop, exposed pipes may freeze and cause costly repairs. They advise disconnecting hoses, sealing drafts, insulating pipes, keeping indoor heat above 55 degrees, and letting water run steadily to keep pipes safe. WWMT

- ➤ Oshtemo Township officials are considering a new ordinance today to regulate Battery Energy Storage System projects after NewEdge Renewable Power proposed a 260-megawatt facility at West M Avenue and South Van Kral Street.
