COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Monday, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church opened as an emergency shelter for unhoused residents amid dangerous arctic cold. Volunteers provided food, warm clothing and job interview shirts while county officials and nonprofits coordinated free rides and outreach services.  WWMT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Kalamazoo native Rashaad Lee, a Portage Northern alumnus, reached over 8 million streams in four years and released two albums and new singles monthly; he builds his following through social media while balancing studies and fatherhood.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The state program that paid 90% of dam repair costs has ended after spending $40 million on fifty projects, leaving no funds for further repairs. EGLE officials urge dam owners to contact lawmakers during the new legislative session if they need future help.  WWMT
  • Today, the Kalamazoo County board will review Housing for All Millage funding for two downtown workforce housing projects. One project, an 85-unit development by Bogan Development near Bronson Hospital, includes mixed use features & the other, a 71-unit project by AVB Builders, will repurpose a former public safety station.  WKZO
